hard-boiled, sweets, liquorices, lollipops, medicated confectionery and mints. All

The French sugar confectionery market is fairly fragmented. Smaller companies and
private label products such as supermarket own brands accounted for over 40% of

accounted for nearly 35% of the sales in 2003.
The caramels and toffees and hard-boiled sweets segments accounted for 24.5% and
23.4% of the sales, respectively. The three largest segments (mints, caramels and
toffees and hard boiled sweets) together accounted for 82.8% of the French sugar
confectionery market.

The French sugar confectionery market is fairly fragmented, with the main players
being Cadbury France, Lamy Lutti, Haribo-Ricqlès-Zan, Solinest, Chupa Chups and
Perfetti Van Melle. Smaller companies and private label products such as
supermarket own brands accounted for over 40% of the market.
Cadbury France’s top two brands in France are Poulain and Bouquet D'or. Other
varieties include 1848 and Cadbury Milk Chocolate. In addition, it produces
Pimousse, Stimorol, Malabar and Krema Hollywood brands, among others.
Lamy Lutti is a leading company in the French and Belgian markets and also a major
partner for retailers manufacturing private label products. Its brands include Crypto,
La Bonbonnière, Lutti Frutti and Tubble Gum. The company is a subsidiary of the
Netherlands-based CSM group.

Cadbury France
Cadbury France is a subsidiary of Cadbury Schweppes which manufactures
prestigious French chocolate brands such as Poulain and Bouquet D’Or and other
chocolate confectionery.
In 1988, Cadbury Schweppes acquired French confectionery manufacturer, Chocolat
Poulain. Chocolat Poulain was later merged with other Cadbury Schweppes'
acquisitions in 1995 to form Cadbury France. The company is headquartered in Blois,
France.

Chupa Chups SA
Chupa Chups is a major Spanish manufacturer and marketer of confectionery
products. For the financial year ended December 2002, the company had a turnover
of $370.0 million, an increase of 0.8% on the previous year.
The company's candy products are distributed worldwide, and include its own brand
lollipops, as well as SMINTmints and the Crazy Planet range. Chupa Chups is
headquartered in Barcelona, Spain.

Perfetti Van Melle
Perfetti Van Melle manufactures a variety of confectionery and chewing gum
products. The company is currently ranked second largest in Europe and sixth
globally in the sugar confectionery and chewing gum market.
Perfetti Van Melle was created by the merger between Perfetti in Italy and Van Melle
in the Netherlands. Its Italian headquarters are in Lainate, while its headquarters in
Holland are in Breda.

Haribo Gmbh
Privately held Haribo manufactures and packages an assortment of gums and gellies.
The company now sells 75 different product lines including Haribo Starmix,
Tangfastics and Build-a-Burger brands.
Haribo also manages several other brands, including Vandemecum (gum), Maoam
(fruit candy), Dukia (marshmallows) and Bären-Spruchherzen (cookies). The

With global markets and subsidiaries, CSM is a leader in the development,
production, sale and distribution of sugars, confectionery, bakery ingredients and
lactic acid. For fiscal year 2002, the company generated revenues of $3.4 billion, an
increase of 1.8% on the previous year.
CSM serves both the consumer and business-to-business markets. Confectionery
and sugar are produced for sale in the consumer market, while the company
manufactures baking ingredients and products, sugar and lactic acid for sale
business-to-business. The company operates primarily in Europe and North America,
but also has locations in South America and Asia. CSM is based in the Netherlands.
In France the company's subsidiary is called Lamy Lutti .
