Zazen ! ("seated ! meditation") is a meditative discipline practitioners perform
to!calm!the body and the mind, suspending all judgmental thinking and letting
words, ideas, images and thoughts pass by without getting involved in them.!Once
the mind is able to be unhindered by its many layers, one will then be able to
realize one's true Buddha nature.

WHO IS IT FOR
Absolutely anyone, of any faith, any background, with or without experience. ! Many
people try zen because they have a pre-concieved, media-fed idea that it is mystical and
will bring them powers or the ability to overcome any obstacle - the French expression
"soyons zen" meaning be calm, accept everything - hasn't helped. Zen is for any enquiring
mind that would like to experience quiet, calm, silent meditative state that will eventually
lead to the ability to see things as they really are and not as we have fabricated them to
be.!This is the concept of "mushotoku" meaning "without objective" - i.e. if you're doing zen
with an objective in mind, you're doing it incorrectly! To quote a now famous use of this zen
concept: "Just do it!" Zen & zazen is simply the union with our original self; slough off the
prejudices, the pre-conceptions, the media-molding of our everyday lives and come back
to our absolute selves.!There is no renunciation of possessions, just the clinging to them.
