My TiddlyWiki a reusable non-linear personal web notebook
Presentation of the application (MapProject)
Ludovic Smoczynski, 24 May 2012 (created 9 May 2012)
Aim of the application:

no tags

This application provides a list of points and a map. The user can add a point on the map, by giving an address, or by long clicking on the map.
Then, if he click on a point on the list, the chosen point will appears on the map.
The user has the possibility to attach a contact with a point. He can as well know the distance between 2 points.
Let's start the presentation of the application:
Launching of the application :

As you can see, the list is empty, that's why there is a free space at the middle of the view.
A little presentation is on the top of the view, to show the user what is the purpose of the application.
A button "Add place" is available, to add a place (thanks Captain Obvious).

The point displayed on the map is just an example of point, if you click on it, it will give you that :

A version of the application is available in French too :

I think I know how much you like the French language, so I swear it's the first and last screen with French words on it. :) (or not)
A menu is available, by clicking on the top right corner:

By clicking on "Options", this appears:

3 points :
"changed the map's mod" : allow the user to change the between the "traffic" or "satellite" mod.
"display/add/modify point" : the current mod, the mod on which the user can add or modify points.
"distance between points" : the mod on which the user can choose 2 points to know the distance between them.
By clicking on ""changed the map's mod", the 2 mods available appears :

The current map's mod is traffic, so by clicking on "satellite's mod", the map change :

Let's return to first purpose of the application : add and display point. Knowing that no points is available yet, let's add a point.

In this view, ("AddPlaceActivity"), the user can name his point, and give his address.

Knowing that I didn't give an entire address, it will be hard for the application to find the place I want. To fix that, when the user click on the "add" button, if the address given returns several points, the
points available are displayed as a list (3 places max) :

If the application find directly the place (if there is only one result for the given address), it returns directly on the main view, with the new point added on the list.
This way, the user can choose the correct place.
If the user don't give a name and/or a point, the application warns him, and the user cant add the place :

So, let's return there :

If I click on "France, Bischwiller", which is the place I wanted, I get back to the main view.

By clicking on "Sweet home", my point appears :

By clicking on the point, the name of the point, and the correct address related with this point appears :

The user can add a point directly by "long clicking" on the map.
For example, I long click on Paris, the application asks me if I really want to add the point :

By clicking on "yes", the point is automatically added on the list, with a name by default, "MyTestPoint" followed by a number.

Obviously, the user has the possibility to change the name of a point. When the user clicked on a point of the list, a button appears," modify current place" :

So, let's click on this button :

The "modification view" appears. On this view, you can change the name and the address of a point. You can also attach a contact with the current point. I will get back on that later.

So, I changed the name with "Paris", and the address with "Champs Elysees". It's not really an address, but no care, the point is already set on the map.
To save my changes, I click on the "modify button". Here we are :

I add an other point :

Let's say I don't want this point anymore on my map. To delete it, click on the "modify button" :

And then, on the "delete" button :

A contextual menu appears, asking the user if I really wants to delete this button. Yes we want :

A little toast inform the user that the point has been well deleted.
Now, let's get back to the "attach contact to a point function".
Firstly, I show you my list of contacts, to prove you that the list of contacts you will see in my application is not a fake ! :p

So, let's get back to my application and on the modify view for the "sweet home" place.

I want to attach this point with the contact which represents me. For that, I have to click on the "set as home address of" button :

A list view appears with all the contacts available. The user can choose on of them. I choose me :

I confirmed my changes and I get back to the main view. I clicked on the "sweet home" item on the map :

We can see that the toast show with which contact the point is related.
That's roughly it for the "add/modify/delete points" mod.
Let's go to the "distance between points mod". But before that, I just add a couple of points, for future examples :

I added Galati and Bucuresti (you can't see Bucurest because when the list has more than 3 points, a scroll bar appears to navigate between points).
So, let's change the mod, via the menu :

You can see that the "add" button disappears, some textfields appears and the text which contains information changes.
So, to know the distance between 2 points, the user have to click on 2 items on the list. Let's choose "Sweet home", located near Strasbourg :

... and Paris :

You can see that the distance between both points appears automatically. 405km, I think it's correct.
If the user wants to know an other distance between 2 points, he just have, like before, to select 2 points. The text-fields previously filled will get empty to let place to the other information.
Example : just by clicking on "Galat", the other information will disappear :

Then, Bucarest :

That's roughly it for the application. One more thing, if the orientation of the phone change, the layout change :

And if the application detects that it is running on a pad for example, the layout change too :

(It's bit ugly, I know)
An other thing : of course, if the user quit the application and get back to it, the points previously added will be still there.
