ENGINEERING SHOP
MARGOT MCDONALD, FALL 2012

T

he engineering Shop was a project
made during the Fall quarter 2012 for Cal Poly. It
consists in providing a new building for Engineers.
It has to be innovative, useful and sustainable. The
concept of the building is an L shape with the main
entrance at the corner which permit an acces at the
two parts of the area.

The site is along California Boulevard, a
very crowded street and a good spot to be visible.
A parking structure is provided in front of the main
entrance.

he building is designed with one major
wall separating the main structure from the project
bays. The wall is meant to be a structural art piece
made from rammed earth concrete and soil from
the site.

The roof is composed of Solar Panels,
around 14593 sf. The solar panels permit to catch
the sun to feed the building. The building electricity
load can have a percentage of 11% (5 W/sf) for a
very low efficiency thin film, and 33%(15W/sf) for a
high efficiency single crystalline PV technology. The
solar panels need 5 hours of useful sunlight per day.

MULTICULTURAL CENTER
MARGOT MCDONALD, WINTER 2012

T

he multicultural center was a project
proposed by calpoly in order to gather cultures
from all over the world. The Center had to be a
safe place where international students could feel
at home and interract with each others. It has to be
visible, a landmark for the students and emphases
with the campus.

he Landscape propose several atmospheres and plays with the scales. The Slope is a big
part of the project and our building is in harmony
with it.The South facade represents the diversity,
the multiculturalism of our world and become a signal day and night.

MARGOT MCDONALD, FALL 2012

T

he Merced project was a competition
with a main goal:Architecture at Zero Energy. Green
roofs, Solar panels and wind turbine are provided
and become a part of the landscape. The idea is to
rethink the idea of Student Housing using different
scales. The Graduate students have more privacy in
the little houses and the Freshman sophomore are
in the bigger buildings in order to create more relationship with each others.

«Tell me, I’ll Forget. Show me, I may remember. But involve me, and I’ll understand.»

ARCHITECTURE COLLEGE
T.DAVID, J-M VEILLEROT, winter 2011

T

he Architecture College is located in
Meudon, in the South West of Paris. The site is very
steep and the idea was to mark it inside and outside
the building.
The main entrance is at the third floor, but andother
entrance from la rue de Vaugirard is provided for
bikes and users who come from the other side.

A main Patio centralize the School, and
gather all students and staff. Terraces are accessible
in each floor like a belvedere. The common spaces
face to La Seine and the studios have sunlight everyday .They are oriented East/West , like following the
sunpath all day long.

FLEXIBLE HOUSING
T.DAVID, J-M VEILLEROT, SPRING 2012

T

his project is located in Paris , near La
Villette. It includes 60 appartments, for Students, a
couple or a Family.
The idea was to maximize the view to the river-Canal
de l’Ourcq, and create a relaxing atmosphere in the
middle of the complex to provide activites inside the
building as meeting or work time in the Library.
The idea is to avoid long circulation in the building,
mix different types, and provide sun and views in each
appartment. Each appartment has the main entrance
at the same side, but the interior and the views are
different all the time.
