We thank you for purchasing your new PASS system
Our PASS audio routing system for musicians is the result of more than 5 years of research and
development, as well as surveying musicians, to give you the facility and absolute control over
your gear. With the master unit, you will be able to control up to 24 loops and 6 channels
(IN/OUT or N.C. /N.O.).
-Master unit:
- Equipped with a memory bank of 128 presets (0-127) on each SD card, it responds
to Program Changes (PC) and Control Changes (CC) received from any external
Midi controller or from its internal controller.
- All system configurations and unit’s 128 presets are saved on the SD card. This
allows you to:
o Have more than 128 presets, by changing the SD card during the show
(Entracte), you can have a new configuration and 128 new presets for the second
part of the show.
o Back-up your settings on your computer or on another SD card.
o Easily transfer your settings from one unit to another. (Useful when you have
more than one set-up during a tour)
- It can be programmed to respond to all incoming Midi signals simultaneously on all
Midi channels (Omni) or on a specific channel (1 to 16).
- All 24 loops and 6 channels (IN/OUT or N.C. /N.O.) can be individually configured
to change their state (On/Off) with the use of the control button on the front panel or
by Control Change (CC). (see configuration section for more details).
- Each loop and Channel can be configured between latching or momentary
(Momentary is on for 0.5 seconds, then off)
- Complete programming can be done on the unit or on a computer with the use of our
editor program (For Windows) supplied with the unit.
- An LCD screen displays the number of the preset in use, the name attributed, and the
main menu when editing.
- Equipped with 24 loops and 6 channels (IN/OUT or N.C. /N.O.).
- Equipped with a passive IN and an active IN (Unity Gain Buffer).
- The unit has a complete internal cabling system with breakpoints IN and OUT. You
can connect your instrument into the back ACTIVE IN and have the signal on the
OUT 6 without the use of patch cables. You can split the daisy-chain to have 6 X 4
loops, 3 X 8 loops, 2 X 12 loops, 1 X 12 loops + 2 X 6 loops, etc… (see Internal &
back connection section and example in the appendix section for more details)

Front
-PWR: Use to power up the Master PASS system.
-SD card slot: Insert the SD card supplied with the system into this slot. (Any SD card
of 1 GB minimum can be used, but first needs to be formatted with our provided editor
program)
-Active In: ¼” input (Unity Gain Buffer), maximizes quality from your pick-ups,
minimizes noise, and allows the split of the signal so it can be sent to multiple devices.
Connecting in this input disconnects the back ACTIVE, and sends the signal internally to
the IN 1 and to the PASS/ACT OUT in the back. (See internal connection section for
more details)
-Passive IN: ¼” input, the signal is directly sent to PASS/ACT OUT in the back. (See
internal connection section for more details)
-Back/Cancel button: Cancels any changes that haven’t been saved.
-Menu/Save button: Allows to save changes and to edit the main menu.
-Edit/Enter knob button: Internal controller if you don’t use an external controller for
Program Change (PC). Allows to edit the main menu and the name of the preset.
-LCD screen: Displays the preset number and name currently in use. Displays the main
menu.
-0 to 29 buttons: Allows to change state (On/Off) of the 24 loops and 6 channels (Loop
24 to 29).
-LED: Displays the state (On/Off) of each loop and channel.

Internal connections

ACTIVE IN (Back): ¼” input, sends the signal to the Buffer by passing in the front ACTIVE input.
ACTIVE IN (Front): ¼” input, sends the signal to the Buffer. Connecting an instrument into this input
disconnects the ACTIVE IN (Back).
Buffer: Burr-Bown professional grade and quality, the output gain is identical to the input gain without
any coloration to the tone. The use of a buffer allows the signal to be split and sent through long cables.
Internally, the signal is sent to the ACTIVE OUT and PASS/ACT OUT in the back.
ACTIVE OUT (Back): ¼” output, receives the signal from the buffer and sends it internally to the IN 1.
Connecting an instrument into this input disconnects the internal signal to IN 1.
PASSIVE IN (Front): ¼” input, serves to transmit the signal of an instrument connected into it, to the
PASS/ACT OUT (Back) output without passing through the Buffer. Connecting an instrument into this
input disconnects the internal connection from the Buffer to the PASS/ACT OUT (Back).
PASS/ACT OUT (Back): ¼” output, receives the signal from the Buffer OR from the PASSIVE IN
(Front).
EXAMPLES OF CONFIGURATIONS:
- Guitar 1 is connected to ACTIVE IN (Back), the signal passes through the Buffer, then is sent
to the IN 1 (Ready for loop 0), and sent to the PASS/ACT OUT (Back) ready to be sent to
another device. Connecting a cable into ACTIVE OUT (Back) disconnects the signal send to
IN 1.
- Same situation, but this time you connect Guitar 2 into ACTIVE IN (Front). Guitar 1 is
deactivated, and Guitar 2 replaces the signal on the same outputs.
- Same situation, but this time you connect guitar 2 into PASSIVE IN (Front); Guitar 1 passes
into the Buffer and the signal stays in the IN 1, the signal of guitar 2 is on the output of
PASS/ACT OUT (Back) without passing through the Buffer. Connecting a cable into
ACTIVE OUT (Back) deactivates the signal of guitar 1 sends it to IN 1.

Internal & back connection

IN 1: Receives the signal from ACTIVE OUT (Back). Sends the signal to the next loop.
Connecting a cable into this input deactivates the signal received from ACTIVE OUT
(Back).
SEND / RTRN (Return): Looping made by a gas-sealed gold contact relay. When the
loop is activated, the signal is output through SEND and is sent to the device connected
to it, and returns through the input RTRN, then is sent to the next loop or OUT.
OUT 1: Receives the signal from the last loop. Sends the signal internally to the next IN.
Connecting a cable into this output deactivates the signal sent to the next IN.
This process is the same for the 5 other loop sections. Here are some clarifications:
-

OUT 1 internally sends the signal to the IN 2. Connecting a cable to one of
those connectors deactivates the internal signal.
OUT 2 internally sends the signal to the IN 3. Connecting a cable to one of
those connectors deactivates the internal signal.
OUT 3 internally sends the signal to the IN 4. Connecting a cable to one of
those connectors deactivates the internal signal.
OUT 4 internally sends the signal to the IN 5. Connecting a cable to one of
those connectors deactivates the internal signal.
OUT 5 internally sends the signal to the IN 6. Connecting a cable to one of
those connectors deactivates the internal signal.
Out 6 is the signal’s final output, there is no internal connection after this
output.

This type of loop is different. It is not internally connected to any loop, and can be used
for different purposes:
- Amplifier signal control: Connect the signal to the IN and connect your
amplifier to the OUT. When the loop is activated, the signal is transmitted to
the amplifier. When the loop is deactivated, the signal is not sent, and the
amplifier is muted.
- Amplifier channel control: If your amplifier is equipped with channels that
can be controlled by a footswitch, you might be able to control it with this
type of loop. Refer to your amplifier manual for the type of control needed:
Latching or momentary; normally open (N.O.) or normally closed (N.C.).
NEVER TRY TO CONTROL 2 CHANNELS WITH ONE LOOP, YOU
MIGHT DAMMAGE YOUR EQUIPMENT.
- Instrument control: By using inverted loops, you can choose between
multiple instruments. (See appendix for an example)

Midi Connection
Midi IN: Connect your Midi controller into this connector with a Midi cable.
Midi Thru: The signal received from the Midi IN is replicated on this output connector.

Power Connector
Use only an adaptor that outputs 12V DC with a minimum of 1 Amp, positive center, 2.5
mm. Any other type of adaptor can damage your unit, and wouldn’t be covered by the
warranty and would automatically revoke it.

Programming
There are 2 ways to program your unit: by computer or directly on the unit. All unit programming
and configurations are saved directly on the SD card (1 GB minimum), so you can have several
SD cards with different configurations for different shows or sections of a show.

Computer

First use:
For editing your SD card, you will find the «SD Editor for Windows» folder on the SD
card supplied with the unit. Copy and paste the complete folder «SD Editor for
Windows» on your hard disc to the desired location. In the folder «SD Editor for
Windows» copied on your hard disc, double-click «Trïbe_Technologie.EXE» to start the
program.
- A window will open to choose the SD card to use. Click on the corresponding
card and click «continue». You are now in the main configuration program.
- The SD card supplied with the unit is formatted. If you need to format a
new SD card: Click on the «Settings» tab on the top, then click «Format SD
Card». WARNING: Formatting your SD card will erase all the information
which is stored there.
- Suggested tab order to use:
o «Settings», Midi Channel
o «Loop Names»
o «Loop Modes»
o «Loop Midi CC»
o «Program Configuration», all preset configurations.
o «Settings», back up data from SD card.
Tabs:

«Program configuration»:
o «Choose program»: Click on the arrow to display the menu. This menu
allows you to choose the preset you want to edit.
o «Name»: Allows you to give a name to your preset. Maximum 36
characters. This name will be displayed on unit LCD when the preset is
selected.
o «LCD preview»: Allows you to preview the display on the LCD.
o «Copy active program configuration to another program»: Copy
preset name and loop configuration to another preset.
o «Active Loops»: Put a hook on each loop that you want to be activated
when this preset is called.
o «Reload selected program configuration from SD»: Allows loading the
selected preset from the SD card.
o «Save selected program configuration to SD»: When your loop
configuration is done, click this button to save the loop configuration on
the SD card. You will lose your preset configuration if you change presets
without first saving on the SD card.

«Loop modes»: Choose the mode for each loop between latching or
momentary. When it’s done, click «Save loop modes to SD». The momentary
mode work this way: Upon receipt of a change of state, the loop will be
activated for 0.5 seconds and then will be in an inactive state until the receipt
of a new change of state.

«Loop MIDI CC»: For each loop, choose the Control Change (CC) number
you want the loop to change state.

-

«Loop names»: You can name each loop; this will help you when
programming your configuration. The name of each loop will only appear in
the computer program, and doesn’t appear on the unit LCD screen. Once the
naming is done, click «Save loop names» to save; the program will
automatically restart.

«Settings»:
o «Device MIDI channel»: Choose the channel on which the unit will
receive the Midi signal. 0 = Omni, unit will respond to signals on all Midi
channels (1 @ 16).
o «Backup data from SD card»: Allows you to save all data from your SD
card onto your computer hard disk. New data will erase previous data.
o «Restore data to SD card»: Allows you to save all data from your
computer hard disk onto your SD card. New data will erase previous data.
o «Format SD card»: To be used when you use a new SD card.

If you plan on using several SD cards for different setups, we recommend that you
copy the entire «SD Editor for Windows» folder to the number of setups you have, and
give a different name for each setup.
Example: «SD Editor for Windows Show 1», «SD Editor for Windows Show 2», «SD
Editor for Windows part 1», etc…
Because when you will be doing a backup from your SD card on your hard disk, it will
erase previously saved information. When creating a folder for each setup, you will have
a backup for each setup.
Use the «Trïbe_Technologie.exe» file of each corresponding folder for editing each
corresponding SD card.

On the unit
This section is for modifying the options without the use of the computer or for people
that don’t have access to a computer.
1) Insert the SD card in the unit and then turn on the unit. After the start up, the unit
will calibrate itself to the preset 000.
2) Push the «Menu» button; you are now in the main menu. The cancel button
allows you to exit the main menu without saving. If you turn the «Edit» knob, this
will allow you to choose the parameter you want to edit.
3) Push «Enter» to edit:
- «Midi Channel»: Turn «Edit» knob to choose the channel on which the unit
will receive the Midi signal. 0 = Omni, unit will respond to signals on all Midi
channels (1 @ 16). Push «Menu» button to accept.
- «Loop Modes»: Allows you to choose the mode for each loop between
latching and momentary. Turn the «Edit» knob to choose the loop to
configure, and then push «Enter» for changing the mode. Once all changes are
made, push the «Menu» button to go back to the menu. The momentary mode
functions as follows: Upon receipt of a change of state, the loop will be
activated for 0.5 seconds and then will be in an inactive state until the receipt
of a new change of state.
- «Loop ## CC Message»: Choose the loop to be edited. Push one time on
«Edit» , turn the «Edit» knob to choose the Control Change (CC) number you
want the loop to change state (On/Off) of upon receipt of that Control Change
(CC) number. Once done, push «Menu» to go back to the main menu.
o For each Control Change (CC), the values are:
 0-63 : Loop is inactive
 64-127: Loop is active, (0.5 second for momentary)
Example: Loop 02, CC #51, value between 0 and 63 = deactivated
Loop 02, CC #51, value between 64 and 127 = activated (0.5
seconds for momentary)
When all changes are made and you come back to the main menu, push «Save» to save
your changes on the SD card. The unit will display «Saving, please Wait», DO NOT
TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE UNIT DURING THIS OPERATION. When the saving
is done, the unit will go back to the preset mode.
All changes made on the SD card from the unit will not be saved on your computer hard
disk. You need to do a «Backup data from SD card» to transfer the new configuration on
your computer.

Operating the unit
Insert the SD card into the SD CARD slot, and then turn on the power with the PWR
button. The unit will display «TRIBE TECHNOLOGIE WWW.TRIBEFX.CA», during
this operation; the unit will recover all system information, do not touch anything on the
unit during this operation.
Once the recovery is done, the unit will go to preset 000 and will await a signal.
- Any external Midi controller that can send Program Changes (PC) and Control
Changes (CC) can be used to control this unit.
- If you don’t use an external Midi controller, you can use the internal controller
to change presets by turning the «Edit» knob. This internal controller cannot
be used to control another Midi device.
- Upon receipt of a Program Change (PC) Midi signal on the programmed
channel, the unit will immediately change to the associated preset.
- Upon receipt of a Control Change (CC) Midi signal on the programmed
channel, the unit will change the state (On/Off) of the associated loop. If the
loop is momentary, it will be activated for 0.5 seconds and then deactivated.
- You can change the state (On/Off) of each loop by using the associated button
on the front panel, as if it was a Control Change (CC).
Saving from the unit
When you make a modification to a loop’s state (On/Off) and you want to save this
configuration:
- Push «Edit», an underline will appear under the first character of the preset
name.
- You can cancel the saving operation at any time by pressing the «Cancel»
button.
- OPTIONAL: You can change the preset name. By turning the «Edit» knob,
you can change the underline character. Push the «Edit» knob to go to the next
character. You cannot go back to a previous character, you have to continue
on to each character in order to get back to the one to be modified.
- During this action, LEDs for each activated loop will light up, and the
momentary loop will stay activated.
- To change the state (On/Off) of an additional loop, push the desired loop
button.
- Push «Save» to save the new configuration.
Don’t forget that all new configurations won’t be on your computer, do a
«Backup data from SD card» to transfer the configuration to your computer’s
hard disk.
Fast save summary: If you make a loop state (On/Off) change and want to save it, push
«Edit» and then push «Save».

Warranty
Trïbe Technologie PASS units come with a warranty of a period of 5 years from the date
of purchase. The warranty covers the parts and labor. The shipping is not included in the
warranty. The warranty covers only PASS units from Trïbe Technologie and does not
cover any equipment connected to those units. Any unit modification or reparation that
has not been directly made by Trïbe Technologie automatically revokes this warranty.
The warranty is automatically revoked if the security seal affixed by Trïbe Technologie is
broken or damaged. The warranty doesn’t cover any defects resulting from an accident or
misuse. The power adaptor, supplied with the Master unit, is on warranty for a period of
1 year from the date of purchase of the Master unit.

Multiple connections for 3 instruments (1 active – 2 passive) – 3 amplifiers :

By using the IN and OUT, you can separate onto 6 lines of 4 effects, 3 lines of 8 effects,
2 lines of 12 effects, 1 line of 24 effects, 2 lines of 8 effects + 2 lines of 4 effects, 1 line
of 16 effects + 1 line of 8 effects, 1 line of 16 effects + 2 lines of 4 effects, etc…
The channel loops allow the managing of signals sent to external units.
