STREET ADDRESSING AND MANAGEMENT OF CITIES
Assignment No. 4
Description/rationale for address zones division:
We chose to divide ad hoc the city into 12 zones. The red line is the official limit. The boundaries of these zones
follow mostly the main axes of the city.
An industrial area: I ; An area that is prohibited in building and should be reforested to protect the city: P
The Ares that are invaded by squatters who are 6 in number: S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6
The northern part of the city is divided into four zones (H1, H2, H3, H4) according to its temporal extension with H1
first, then H2, H3, H4, respectively.
Proposal of a system for numbering street
The axes in yellow are the axes of reference for the sequence numbering of the streets. We have
H1.X with X an odd number for the streets parallel to the Boulevard Jean Jacques Dessalines (We
start with H1.1) streets begin from south to north,
And H1.Y with Y an even number to the streets parallel to the rue St Honoré (we start with H1.2),
streets begin from West to East.
System for numbering buildings
I suggest numbering the houses as follows: Starting from the beginning of the street to its end,
the houses on the left will have a sequence of odd-numbered and houses to the right will have a
numbering sequence pairs. Because of the earthquake many houses were destroyed I suggest
using the decametric system also has some place to take account of collapsed buildings.
