CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
TATE announces its second annual conference to be held in the Tunis Science City, Tunisia on the 3rd
and 4th May, 2014. The theme to be debated is: “Shaping the Future of ELT: Challenges and
Opportunities”.
Meeting the current challenges and opportunities in teaching English and discussing the practical
methods which English teachers should adopt to respond to the new trends in teaching English will be
the main focus of the conference which will gather EFL scholars and researchers as well as EFL
practitioners in primary, secondary and tertiary education.
Needless to say that there are innumerable challenges facing ELT in the years to come. Some of these
challenges concern the relevance of the different approaches and methods in a changing world and in a
‘post-method’ era, the particular variety of English to adopt amidst the calls to consider different
‘Englishes’ rather than one standard English, and the various alternatives to traditional forms of
assessment. Along with these challenges, however, new opportunities will arise that can make the
profession richer, more varied and perhaps even more promising.
The conference will be an opportunity for national and international ELT researchers and practitioners
to network and share their experiences and an occasion to provide some input for educational change
and to participate in improving the practice of ELT.
Conference participants are invited to submit their proposals to be evaluated for inclusion in the
conference programme. All submitted abstracts will be evaluated by a Steering Committee on the basis
of their originality and relevance to the conference theme.

Proposals can be submitted on any of the following areas:

Conducting research in ELT
ELT teacher as researcher
Teacher evaluation
Professional development in ELT
Teaching English to young learners
ELT in university/tertiary level
ELT and vocational education

Discourse analysis and teaching
Materials development and syllabus design
Language testing and assessment
Innovation and change in ELT
Language policy and language planning
Language, power and ideology
New trends in methodology
Technology in teaching, learning and research

Contributions can be in the form of:
