Dear Dean Boukhchina,
On behalf of The Protection Project at The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International
Studies and the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis at the University of Carthage,
Tunisia, it is our distinct pleasure to invite you to take part in the “Third Regional Middle East and North
Africa (MENA) Regional Conference on Clinical Legal Education,” scheduled to take place in Tunis,
Tunisia, on the dates of February 24-25, 2014, at the Novotel in Tunis, Tunisia.
The regional conference is aimed at discussing the role of legal clinics as a vehicle for social justice,
mechanisms of legal reform, and a tool for building law students’ proficiency with the professional skills of
becoming a practicing lawyer. Legal clinics have expanded throughout all regions of the world, and the
momentum in the MENA region is likewise palpable. The conference will provide an opportunity for
representatives of existing clinics in the region to come together with professors and deans of universities
interested in establishing clinics, to discuss best practices and pathways forward.
The regional conference will likewise serve as an opportunity for dialogue with a group of leading
international experts in the fields of clinical legal education, as well as legal ethics. Clinical methodologies
and strategies, such as street law will be presented and discussed, as will be a model law on legal ethics and a
model course on legal ethics and professional responsibility.
