3-Remember
To ask for instructions or directions, we use what we call: “Polite requests”.
Example:
Could you tell me how to get to the museum please?
Polite requests:

ƒ

ƒ

Can you ……………………….., please? (informal)

ƒ

Could you ……………………….., please? (formal)

ƒ

Would you …………………….., please?

ƒ

Can I help you? (is an expression people use to offer their help)

We have learnt how to formulate Polite requests informally
Example:

ƒ

-

Can you show me the way, please? (formally)

-

Could you tell me how to make a pizza, please?

-

Would you direct me to the post-office, please?

We use the imperative to give instructions (to show the way).
