Beauval
MANY ANIMALS, ONE MISSION
The ZooParc de Beauval is not only a wonderful
place to discover the natural world but is also
a hotspot for conservation action. Driven by
the passion and determination of its founding
President, Françoise Delord, Beauval has been
committed to the conservation of threatened
species for many years. Many conservation
programs world-wide are supported by the
Beauval Nature Association including the
conservation of okapis in the Congo, orang-utans
in Malaysia, and koalas in Australia. Information
about these programmes can be found on the
education signs located throughout the park.
RECYCLE YOUR OLD MOBILE PHONES!
As part of our engagement in the conservation of
great apes, ZooParc de Beauval is collecting old
mobile phones in order to recycle a metallic ore
called coltan, the extraction of which causes mass
deforestation in Africa.
BEAUVAL CONSERVATION DAYS
For the second year running, a series of special
days dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity
will take place at ZooParc de Beauval. Find out
more about biodiversity at…

INCREDIBLE ENCLOSURES
At Beauval our cats, primates, reptiles, birds,
and aquatic mammals live within magnificent
enclosures including an immense African
savannah, four tropical greenhouses, elephant
plains, monkey islands, and pools with great
underwater viewing areas giving our visitors
the opportunity for unique encounters with the
animals all year round.

An
Extraordinary
Park
5,700 ANIMALS
Home to 5,700 animals belonging to 600
different species, Beauval covers an area of about
30 hectares and houses the largest collection of
animals in France. It takes a couple of days to
discover all of Beauval’s extraordinary animals,
including white tigers, white lions, manatees, and
okapis. Some of the species housed at Beauval
are found nowhere else in France, such as the
koalas, tree-kangaroos, and of course the giant
pandas!
450 BIRTHS PER YEAR
Approximately 450 baby animals are born each
year at Beauval. This is fantastic not only for our
visitors but also for the survival of many species
that are becoming endangered in the wild. Some
births, whether it be a chimpanzee, hornbill, tapir,
or Indian rhinoceros, are all the more important
as these endangered species are included in the
European Endangered Species Programme (EEP),
meaning that reproduction amongst these animals
is a top priority.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS!
Here are a few of the incredible births that
happened last year…

Beauval’s
GIANT PANDA
THE ONLY GIANT PANDAS
IN FRANCE
In 2012 a nationally important event took place
when two giant pandas arrived at Beauval,
becoming the only giant pandas in France. The
giant panda is classed as a Chinese ‘National
Treasure’ and has only been entrusted to 17
zoological parks outside of China. Diplomatic
discussions at the highest level as well as the
agreement of the Chinese President allowed the
arrival of Huan Huan and Yuan Zi at Beauval, as
part of a conservation and research programme
with the Chengdu reproduction centre in China.
CELEBRATIONS AT BEAUVAL!
Throughout the year, ZooParc de Beauval has
played host to various giant panda celebrations:
• 15TH JANUARY 2012
Arrival of the giant pandas at Beauval
• 9TH JUNE 2012
‘Chengdu day’, a Chinese culture festival
• 23TH NEVEMBER 2012

• 10TH AUGUST and 6TH SEPTEMBER 2013
