Leaf lace cotton cuff
This is a cute cotton cuff with a overlapping leaf pattern. It’s knit on straight needles with cotton yarn.
You can wear the cuff on your wrist. You can also use this edging for socks or other items. This leaf pattern is only given in one
direction.

Yarn: Schachenmayr Nomotta Cotton Eco; 1 ball green and 1 ball brown
Needle: 2,5 mm or US 1,5
Gauge: 24 stitches is about 10 cm or 4”
Also: a tapestry needle to close the cuff, an iron to press the leafs into shape and mild detergent.
This cuff is one size only: 18 cm or 7” circumference.

Cast on:
50 stitches loosely using the brown yarn.
Cast on as loose as you can, so you can pick up the loops later to make the edging. You can use bigger sized needles.

Rows
1. Slip first stitch and purl row
2. Slip first stitch and knit back
3. Slip first stitch and purl row
4. Slip first stitch and knit back
5. Slip first stitch and purl row
6. Slip first stitch, * k2tog, yo*, repeat *-* till end of row
7. Slip first stitch and purl row
8. Slip first stitch and knit back
9. Slip first stitch and purl row
10. Slip first stitch and knit back
11. Slip first stitch and purl row
12. You can put all the cast on stitches on a third needle and use it next to the left hand needle.
Pick up the first stitch loop of the first row, knit that one together with the first live stitch on the left needle.
Repeat till end. Make sure you flap the first knit part in front. Be sure the front of your work stays on the outside.
13. Slip first stitch and purl row
Continue knitting till you reach the desired length of the cuff. In this case I’ve knitted 30 more rows.
Knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side.
Always slip the first stitch on each row.
End with a purled row, cut the yarn with sufficient length to use it to close the cuff later. (in the same colour).

Next
Pick up the green yarn and purl one row, and at the end cast on 8 new stitches using the back loop method.
Turn work.
You’ve noticed the double purl rows. One in brown, one in green. In the next picture you see why.
Because you want to cuff leafs to flip over the brown, you have to knit on the wrong side to show off the leafs correctly.
Start the chart. You’ll start knitting the leaf pattern with the brown cuff to your left. One needle with green stitches and the leaf edging
will be attached one stitch at the time.

NOTICE:
Please repeat this chart one time till row 20, then continue with row 3.
Repeat Chart and complete 5 leafs. You’ll see you’ve got some stitches left, they will be used to close the cuff.
You can bind them off and leaf a tail of ~50 cm.
The picture above shows that the first leaf is sticking out a bit. That part will be sown onto the left over stitches on the other side. That way
it will look that there is no beginning and no ending to the cuff. Start this chart with the back loop stitches on the left needle. The arrows
show the direction of knitting.

Binding off:
Knit 1, * knit 1, slip both back to left needle and k2tog*. Repeat *_* until the end. You could use a bigger sized needle for this to make
sure it is flexible enough.
