Adjustable sizing for Youths to Adults
Pattern inspiration from Converse-‐style baby booties

Materials
Bernat Softee Chunky Super Bulky Yarn 100 g ball – White (Gauge 11 sts = 4”)
Bernat Softee Chunky Bulky Yarn 100g ball –colour of choice (for sole and body of
slipper) (Gauge 15 sts = 4”)
Scrap yarn worsted weight – Black (for pinstripe around slipper edge)
Scrap of worsted weight yarn – White (for ankle “patch”)
6mm needles
6mm round needles
Crochet hook 4mm and 6.5mm
Darning Needle
Slipper Sole
Measure foot length and subtract ¾ of an inch to allow for the slipper to stretch fit.
This is the total length of sole. Divide this length in half. This will be the length
where sole width is increased.
Eg. 9 inch foot length = 8.25” sole length 4 1/8 inch marks where sole starts
increases to widen sole for front area of foot.
Slipper Sole cont.
Using Bulky yarn in colour of choice -‐ 6mm needles
Cast on 8 stitches.
Row 1. Knit one row.
Row 2. Knit, increasing one stitch in first and second to last stitch (10 sts)
Continue in Garter Stitch until work measures half of desired sole length (see note
above)
Next Row. Knit, increasing one stitch in first and second to last stitch (12 sts)
Knit 2 rows.
Next Row. Knit, increasing one stitch in first and second to last stitch (14sts)
Continue knitting in Garter Stitch until sole measures 1.5 inches shorter than
desired length of sole.
Next Row. Knit 2 tog. Knit to last 3 stitches. Knit 2 tog. Knit 1. (12 sts)
Knit 2 rows.
Next Row. Knit 2 tog. Knit to last 3 stitches. Knit 2 tog. Knit 1. (10 stst)
Knit 3 rows.
Next Row. Knit 2 tog. Knit to last 3 stitches. Knit 2 tog. Knit 1. (8 sts)
Knit 1 row.
Next Row. Knit 2 tog. Knit to last 3 stitches. Knit 2 tog. Knit 1. (6 sts)
Cast off.
Weave in loose ends.
Upper Sole Band
**Sole and Upper Sole Band # Pick up stitch and k 2 tog.
Using Super Bulky white yarn -‐ “fish” a loop of the white yarn through the outer heel
edge of sole.
Cast on 5 stitches. The upper sole band is knit “sideways” around the perimeter of
the sole attaching one stitch to the sole at the adjoining edge by working the last
stitch of the band together with a stitch from the edge of the sole.
Always slip first stitch of each row.
Upper Sole Band cont.
Row 1. Slip first stitch as though to Knit, P, K, P, slip next stich to right hand needle.
Pick up a stitch from outer edge of slipper sole. Place slipped stitch back onto left
hand needle and knit the 2 sts together (# see pic above).
Turn your work.
Row 2. Slip first stitch as though to Purl, K, P, K, P.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until circumference of entire sole of slipper is completed.

Cast off leaving a long tail to use for sewing seam shut.
Sew back heel seam of sole band using darning needle.
Weave in loose ends.
Black pinstripe
Using smaller crochet hook and worsted weight black yarn. Chain Stitch a thin black
line onto upper sole approx. ¼ inch from top edge. Weave in loose ends.
Toe
Using white Super Bulky yarn, pick up center 6 stitches from top edge of upper sole
band (toe end of slipper).
Row 1. With wrong side facing (inside of slipper) -‐ Purl these 6 stitches.
Row 2. (Outside of slipper – right side of work) Pick up a stitch from edge of sole
band and knit it. Knit to end. Pick up a stitch from the sole band and knit it through
the back of the loop. (8 sts)
Row 3. Pick up a stitch from the edge of the sole band and purl it. Purl to end of row.
Pick up a stitch from the edge of the sole band and purl this stitch through the back
of the loop. (10 sts)
Row 4 & 5. Repeat row 2 & 3 (14 sts)
Toe cont.
Row 6. Pick up a stitch from edge of sole band and knit this stitch together with the
first stitch on needle. Knit to last stitch (unworked). Slip this stitch to the right
needle. Pick up a stitch from edge of sole band, place slipped stitch back to the left
needle and knit this stitch together with the last stitch on needle. (Maintains 14 sts)
Row 7. Pick up a stitch from the edge of the sole band and purl this stitch with the
first stitch on the needle. Purl to last stitch. Pick up a stitch from the edge of the sole
band again and purl this stitch with last stitch on needle. (Maintains 14 sts)
Row 8. Same as Row 6.
Row 9. Change to coloured yarn. Follow direction as for Row 7.
Row 10. Same as Row 6.
Row 11. Same as Row 7.
Row 12-‐16 Continue alternating Row 6 & 7 till approximately 1/3 of the total slipper
length.
Tongue
Continuing on from the toe (Row 16).
Every purl row = knit the first stitch, purl to last stitch, knit last stitch.
Every knit row = knit
Continue in this manner, ending with a purl row, till tongue measures 5.5 inches
from beginning of colour change.
Next Row. Knit 1, Knit 2 together. Knit to last 3 stitches. Slip next stitch, knit 1, put
slip stitch over. Knit 1. (12 sts)
Purl one row.
Decrease to 10 stitches in same manner as above.
Purl one row.
Decrease to 8 stitches in same manner as above.
Knit this next row.
Cast off knit ways.
Weave in loose ends.
Body of slipper
Using 6mm round needle. Overlapping 2 stitches of tongue on each side, pick up
stitches from edge of sole band.
(Number of stitches will vary with the size of the slipper.)

Row 2. Purl
Row 3. Knit
Row 4. Purl
Row 5. Knit
Body of slipper cont.
*Row 6. Purl 2 stitches, yarn over, Purl 2 together (forms eyelet hole for laces). Purl
to last 4 stitches. Purl 2 together, yarn over, Purl 2 stitches.
*Row 7. Knit 1 stitch, slip 1 stitch, Knit 1, put slip stitch over. Knit to last 3 stitches
from end. Knit 2 together, Knit 1. ( decreases row by 2 stitches)
Row 8. Purl
Row 9. Knit
Row 10. Purl
Row 11. *Same as Row 7. (decrease row)
Row 12. *Same as Row 6. (eyelet row)
Row 13. Knit
Row 14. Purl
Row 15. *Same as Row 7. (decrease row)
Row 16. Purl
Row 17. Knit
Row 18. *Same as Row 6. (eyelet row)
Row 19. *Same as Row 7. (decrease row)

Row 27. Cast off Knitways.
Weave in loose ends.
Laces
Chain stitch (Crochet) using larger crochet hook and super chunky white yarn a lace
that measures 43” long. Repeat this. (2 laces)
Ankle patch
Using smaller crochet hook and scrap of white worsted weight yarn.
Chain stitch 4 stitches and slip stitch into 1st chain stitch to form a circle.
Round 1. Chain 2 (forms first double crochet)
Double crochet 12 times into the center of the circle.
Join round with a slip stitch into the 2nd st of the “Chain 2” that started this round.
Ankle patch cont.
Round 2. Chain 1 st. Single crochet (SC) into first stitch of double crochets twice, SC
x 1 into next double crochet stitch, SC x2, SC x1 till round completed. Join with a slip
stitch.
(Photo shows the round of double crochet completed, single chain st on hook and
hook inserted under first stich of Round 2. Ready to make first single crochet st.)
With scrap black worsted weight yarn – embroider logo of choice onto ankle patch.
Suggestions: Star, Heart, Flower etc.
Sew ankle patch to outside ankle area of each slipper.
Weave in any loose ends.
Thread laces though eyelet holes.
