The Spectacular Taiwan Culture Winter Camp, 2017
I. Introduction:
1. Objective:
This winter camp is designed for students from sister universities. Through different
kinds of classes, activities and field trips, we expect to help students enrich their interest
and knowledge of Chinese language and cultures in Taiwan.
2. Courses:
Taiwanese Folk Songs, Classical Chinese Music, Taiwanese History and Culture, Chinese
Calligraphy and Field Trips.
3. Duration:
10 Days, from January 16 to 25, 2017.
4. Participants:
Students are from Seoul National University of Education, Newton College, Leeds Trinity
University, University of Burgundy, Kyoto Sangyo University and Yamanashi Eiwa College.
✽Participants should be in good health condition both physically and mentally
5. Fees:
All courses of this winter camp are free and NTCU also provides free breakfasts, lunches
and accommodation.
6. Meals:
Mainly Chinese Food
7. Accommodation:
Participants will be arranged to live in NTCU dormitory for free.
Participants have another choice to live in NTCU guest hotel and pay fees by themselves.
8. Language:
Some courses will be taught in English and some will be taught in Chinese. Two
students will translate Chinese into English in any need.

III. About Taiwan, Taichung City and NTCU:
1. Taiwan
Geographically located between Japan and Philippines along the west rim of the Pacific Ocean,
Taiwan is renowned for its extinguishing capability in industrial innovation and cultural vitality.
In addition to these achievements, we own and treasure the precious heritage and resources
of the Chinese Culture. The cultural beauty of Taiwan deserves more recognition from the
world.
2. Taichung City
Taichung City is the third-largest metropolitan area in Taiwan. The history of Taichung’s
development spans over 300 years. It enjoys a yearly average temperature of 22.4 degrees
Celsius and a mild spring-like climate all year round. Taichung city is known as an
educational and cultural center. Its commercial district, abundant cultural activities, and the
hospitality of residents make Taichung an attractive city. Taichung is endowed with a rich
history and beautiful natural scenery. It also offers well-priced culinary delights, assorted
shopping areas and arts performances, making it well worth a visit. Public transport is
convenient and comprehension. Taichung has different attractions that tourists can visit. Here
are some of Taichung’s Must-See places. The following includes natural views, famous city
spots, popular cultural venues, and their recreational areas.

※Generally, winter in Taichung is humid and cold. The average temperature in January is
12~17℃. Moderately warm jackets and sweaters will be enough.
3. National Taichung University of Education
National Taichung University of Education, formerly named Taichung Teacher College, is a
school with a long history and good academic standing. We strive not only for academic
development, but also for potency growth, and work hard to keep improving and promoting
ourselves. In recent years, we put more and more emphases on international communication
and cooperation. Foreign and international students are welcome to join us.
4. Dormitory

(1) The entrance door is open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.
(2) Students are required to maintain the room clean.
(3) Smoking and gambling are prohibited in dormitory.
(4) Four female students live in a room and six male students live in a room.
(5) Students can use wifi in NTCU campus.
(6) NTCU provides with toiletries in a room.
(7) There is no dryer in the dormitory.

IV. Travel Trips:
1. Currency
The Republic of China’s unit of currency is the NEW Taiwan Dollar(NT$), which has five
denominations in paper money and five in coins. Paper money comes in NT$2000, NT$1000,
NT$500, NT$200, NT$100 denominations. Coins come in NT$50, NT$20, NT$10, NT$5 and
NT$1 denominations.
2. Easy Card:
It will be an easy way to take a bus to anywhere in Taichung City. It is free of charge for
passengers to use an easy card and take a bus within 8 miles. An easy card is NT$200.
3. Weather
Generally, winter in Taichung is humid and cold. The average temperature in January is
12~17℃. Moderately warm jackets and sweaters will be enough. Sometime, it rains in
winter time.
