3ORC – Oracle Database Administration
Graded Exercise

1 INTRODUCTION
You have to use the same VM as during the class. There is no need to reset it, but if you want to
be sure to work in a clean environment, just unpack it again from original zip.
You have access to teaching materials (PPT and Labs), but not to internet or any other document.
You have two hours to complete your work and send it.
You have to describe each action in a single PDF document, with comments and screenshots (both
French and English are allowed).
This file have to be named like the following pattern:

3ORC_City_IdBooster.pdf

Example:

3ORC_Lille_12345.pdf

This work has to be done alone. Communication and sharing are forbidden.

Graded Exercise

2 QUESTIONS
The database must be put in ACHIEVLOG mode.
If needed activate it by executing this just after the end of the VM boot sequence (when instance
and Enterprise Manager DB Controle aren't started):
[oracle@vmware oracle]$ lsnrctl start

[oracle@vmware oracle]$ sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL> STARTUP MOUNT;

SQL> ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;

SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN;

SQL> exit;

[oracle@vmware oracle]$ emctl start dbconsole

2.1 3 POINTS

Create the user: test_user.
Give him everything he needs to connect, create tables and indexes (in his schema, but
also anywhere else in the database). He should also be able to create sequences.
Configure this user so his objects can use up to 50 Mo in the USERS tablespace (USERS
should be his default tablespace).
Allow him to select data from hr.employees and to let him redistribute this privilege to
other user of his choice.

2.2 3.5 POINTS

Configure RAMN in order to include the control file when a backup is made.
Configure the following default behavior for backup files
o They must use as few space on disk as possible
o They must be stored in the flash recovery area
o Each files shouldn't exceed 30 Mo (split them if needed)
Test this configuration by taking a backup of USERS and EXAMPLE tablespaces.
Display the files created on disk.
Now configure the retention policy so backup files are marked as obsoleted if you have
two or more newer copies of them.

2.3 3 POINTS

Create the test_table in the test_user schema:
test_id
test_name
test_ref

Then the ref_table :
ref_id
ref_date

NUMBER(5), PRIMARY KEY
VARCHAR2(30)
NUMBER(5)

NUMBER(5), PRIMARY KEY
DATE

Configure the test_table so that test_ref values could only be inserted if they are already
written in the ref_id column. Test the solution by adding one row in each table.

2.4 4 POINTS

Create a new directory object referencing the OS directory you want (make sure "oracle"
OS user is allowed to read/write in it).
Using this directory, and the right tool, export the tables created in the previous question.
Then import both tables in HR schema, using HR default tablespace.
Check whether the import worked or not by querying hr.test_table and hr.ref_table.

2.5 3 POINTS

Configure the database so that each access to test_user.test_table is recorded, for both
reads and writes.
The audit trail must be stored inside the database.
Using random DML, check whether the audit works or not.

2.6 3.5 POINTS

Put back the USERS tablespace to the state where he was at the time of question 2.2.
Check whether test_user.test_table and test_user.ref_table still exist or not.
Delete all the backup files created in the question 2.2.
