Book Presentation “Jews and Ukrainians: A Millennium of Co-Existence”

There is much that ordinary Ukrainians do not know about Jews and that ordinary Jews do not
know about Ukrainians. As a result, those Jews and Ukrainians who may care about their
respective ancestral heritages usually view each other through stereotypes and biases.
In this talk, Professor Paul Robert Magocsi, Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of
Toronto (Canada) will talk about the significance of the ground-breaking book “Jews and
Ukrainians: A Millennium of Co-Existence” and argue that the cultural and historical experience
in Ukraine not only divided ethnic Ukrainians and Jews but also brought them together.
“Jews and Ukrainians: A Millennium of Co-Existence” is co-authored by Dr. Magocsi and Dr.
Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern (Northwestern University, U.S.) and is published by University of
Toronto Press. The event is sponsored by the Canadian charitable organization Ukrainian Jewish
Encounter and the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Paris.
A book signing and reception will follow the presentation.
Event Time: Sept. 9, 2017, 7:00 pm
Event Place: Centre Culturel et d'information de l'Ambassade d'Ukraine, 22 Avenue de Messine,
75008 Paris
