SKETCHING FOR IMAGINATION
During my trips, I am taking
time to sketch landscape architecture projects in the city that
I visit. It is about understanding

The main target was to keep the
French style by creating a central
path to link the main activities and
a secondary path for other
important entrances.
The second target was to
destroy a wall which separated the
garden in one side from the
building on the other side.

KARENS MINDE CULTURAL CENTER
The interventions at Karens Minde are crucial in making a more
organized community space. The gravel surface around the
main building creates an anchoring point for the whole site with
the paths and the entrances are oriented around this surface. A
band of cobblestones defines the building’s edge and indicate
its importance on the site. The stormwater retention meadow
utilizes space that is already a depression in the terrain and the
lawn is often wet and therefore not usable. The steel grate paths
over the meadow follow the direction of the existing desire lines.
They also allow the meadow to grow without disturbance and
for people to cross when the area is wet. The fruit tree grids to
the north and south edges of the gravel surface streghten these
edges. Fruit trees fit in with the spirit of Karens Minde as a small
rural oasis in the city. They can be community events around
harvesting time. The concrete elements in the south both define
the southern border and guide pedestrians to Tippen.

A unique rock in the world.
It is interesting for scientists because
the rock composition is the same as thee
planet Mars.
Parfois un objet céleste croise l’orbite de
notre planète bleue.
200 millions of years ago, a specific
asteroid struck the territory of
Rochechouart, in France.
On recense à ce jour une centaine d’impacts, à la
surface de notre Terre.
Mais en France il n’y en a qu’un...

A rock as indice of the impact
However, this event is unknown because in
the landscape, it is impossible to see the
impact of asteroids.
The target of this project is to reveal this
invisible event so as to create a touristic
economy.
In the landscape, the only visible signs of
this impact are in the village architecture
and stones quarry. People use this special
stone to build cities.

Saving water and use it
for agriculture
In this salt flat, water is rare, there
are only 200mm/year. During the
rainy season, rainwater flows from
the mountains to the salt flat.
When rainwater from
mountain comes into contact
with sand, in the plain,
rainwater become salty and
it can’t be used anymore.

Afforestation to save water
JIRIRA Village
(3800m of
altitude)
In this project, the cactus is used as
temporary afforestation. It serves as a
storage water usable for water llamas or
to moisten the soil. It can also be used
as forage for llamas.
On the contrary, permanent
afforestation, located in the valleys,
makes it possible to create a micro
climate near the villages and
a protection against gusts of wind.
It is a managed and sustainable
afforestation.
