Welcome

Dear Model Railroader:
Welcome to our 2017 Micro-Trains Product Guide. 2017 is special year for
Micro-Trains as we’ll be recognizing our 45th Anniversary of manufacturing N
scale rolling stock, Magne-Matic® couplers, trucks and various accessories
right here in Southern Oregon, USA! In this guide you’ll find a representative
sampling of the more than 160 styles of N and Z scale rolling stock and
locomotives; more than any other model train manufacturer, which we offer
to Model Railroaders and Enthusiasts around the world!
During 2017, we plan to design, tool and manufacture four all-new body
styles. The first will be the long-awaited Gunderson 70’ Husky Stack Well
Car. We’ll be expanding our line of Heavyweight Passenger cars with the
introduction of the Single Window Coach. You will also see a new 50’ box
car released and an all-new Z scale Business Car to compliment our line
of Lightweight Passenger cars.
Also new to our product line is the N scale True-Scale Coupler, which is an
accurate scale size body-mount coupler that provides proper scale-distance between cars and no slinky
effect during operation. In addition we plan to release metal wheel sets in early 2017! These wheel sets
will be manufactured to NMRA RP25 standards, detailed on both sides of the wheel and will include preassembled plastic axles for scale appearance and easy conversions. The wheels will also be chemically
blackened and designed to fit all MTL trucks. And of course, made in the USA.
Also during 2017 you’ll see the continuance of our NASA series, which features 12 prototypical freight
cars used by NASA. We will also launch two new series in February; the N scale Friendship Train Series
and the Z scale Great Northern Circus Series. You can learn more about these new prototypical series
on page 10 of this guide.
We continue to receive numerous compliments on our N and Z scale factory-weathered and graffitidecorated rolling stock. Many of these releases have been inspired by photos you, our valued customers,
have submitted to Micro-Trains. We appreciate your input very much and encourage you to continue to
do so during 2017.
For those of you who look forward to our monthly newsletter, the Micro-News®, we will continue to send
the most current Micro-Trains product info right to your door each month! If you are interested in receiving
the Micro-News® you can subscribe by phone, email or through our website.
In addition to supporting our network of authorized Micro-Trains Retailers that we encourage you to
patronize, we also offer our online store. Our online store is extremely user-friendly and we offer our
complete line of N and Z scale trains, couplers and model railroad accessories.
We also encourage you to visit and interact with us on our Facebook page. We update it regularly with
new postings that include new products and other interesting model railroad subjects. And speaking of
interaction, if you’re ever in our area, please stop by for a visit. We’re happy to offer you a tour of our
33,000 square foot factory!
As has been the case for the past 44 years, Micro-Trains is set to expand on what we believe is the world’s
best selection of N and Z scale model trains and accessories, just for you; throughout the year ahead!

N 70’ Husky Stack Well Car
N (1:160)

N 70’ Husky Stack Well Car

Introduced by Gunderson Rail Services in 1990,
the Husky Stack Well Car gave intermodal
freight service the ability to efficiently transport a
variety of containers double-stacked. The Husky
Stack was also the first non-articulated well car
on the market. Our 70’ Husky Stack Well Car
faithfully represents this important prototype with
a metal-cast body to meet NMRA weight standards,
body-mounted Magne-Matic coupler for proper
ride height, separate brake hardware, molded deck
walkways on each end of the detailed 48’ well and allnew ASF Ride Control trucks. This car will also securely
hold our all-new modern 53’ and 48’ containers as well
as our existing 20’ and 40’ containers.

N 50’ Box Cars
N (1:160)

N 50’ Box Cars

Due to increasing national awareness of safety standards
on railroads the AAR legislated in 1968 that all existing
boxcars have their roof walks removed by no later than
1978. Along with the removal, ladders on the sides and
ends of the cars were lowered as well as the brake
hardware. These three modified N scale 50-foot cars
join our growing fleet and feature new sides and ends
depicting changes mandated by the AAR. These cars will
have correct ride height, photo-etched brake platforms,
body mounted Magne-Matic couplers and exacting
surface details.

N ‘73 Single Window Coach
N (1:160)

N 73’ Single Window Coach

Of all the heavyweight passenger cars built, the single
window coach was one of the most common and versatile
cars ever produced. Based on a NYC prototype, our
new single window coach will feature fine surface details,
correct interior, body mounted Magne-Matic couplers
and an all-new 4 wheel passenger car truck common on
local trains.

New Product / Made in America

Z 83’ Business Car

As heavyweight passenger cars gave way to smooth
side lightweight service, many observation cars were
modernized with new sheet metal sides, improved
windows and upgraded interiors from the 1950’s to present
day to attract both railroad and business customers giving
them renewed life. This model will feature accurate surface
detail, new heavyweight 6-wheel trucks and photo-etched
railing on the observation deck.

Made in America
All Micro-Trains rolling stock is designed, tooled and produced in the United States.
Located in beautiful southern Oregon, Micro-Trains’ 33,000 sq.ft. factory resides in the small city of Talent. For over
40 years Micro-Trains has been producing model trains, start to finish, right here in the USA. With over 60 employees, our crew is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality models in the industry and providing the highest
level of service possible.
Our in-house engineering and tooling departments push the limits of plastic injection mold tooling to create some of
the finest models in the world. Once tooling has finished the mold and plastic has been run, the shells and related
parts move on to our decorating department. The decorating process requires a variety of printing machines and
special techniques to get the micro-fine print and mask detail that you find on our cars. The final stage is the assembly process where the cars come to life. Our assembly crew utilizes a combination of pneumatic jigs and hand
assembly work to put the dozen or more pieces together for each car. We are proud that to date we’re the only
model train company in the world that offers more than 160 styles of N and Z scale freight, passenger and locomotive equipment.
If you are coming to southern Oregon and would like to see our factory first hand, contact our front office a couple
days in advance and we’d be happy to give you a personal tour. Thank you for your continued support of our
American-made products!

Specialty Series

NASA Series
The NASA Series features 12 different prototypical NASA Railroad freight
cars. The NASA Railroad was a Class III railroad with the reporting mark
NLAX used to transport special equipment between NASA locations. The
railroad owned three SW1500 switchers and 75 freight cars.

Friendship Train Series
Our ‘Friendship Train Series’ features 12 prototypical freight and passenger cars that were part of
the American Friendship Train in 1947. The Friendship Train collected food donated by Americans
in cities all across the U.S. to be shipped to the people of France and Italy who desperately needed
help following the end of World War II. Without involvement of the government, the food was
loaded, transported by rail and truck and shipped overseas for free due to the generosity of the
American people and their businesses.

Series Begins February 2017

Trucks, Couplers & Custom Runs

The Magne-Matic® Coupler
Truck Variety
The advent of our Magne-Matic coupling system revolutionized
the model railroad industry. The Magne-Matic coupler offers the
most effective and reliable “hands-free” operation in the industry,
including automatic delayed recoupling.

Micro-Trains has introduced many variations and applications of
the Magne-Matic system to fit most of the equipment produced by
various manufactures in the N, Z, Nn3 and HOn3 scales. To learn
which coupler you need to convert your model to Magne-Matic®
couplers, go to our website at www.mico-trains.com and select
“Conversions” from the top navigation bar.

True-Scale Coupler
The ‘True-Scale’ coupler is specifically designed for accurate scale
size, more prototypical features, proper scale-distance between
cars and no slinky effect when operating. This easy-to-assemble
and install body mount coupler consists of a draft gear box, lid,
knuckle, lip shank and a separate plug-in air hose. There are no
springs. They are uncoupled manually using a sharp toothpick or
a needle and can be joined by simply pushing the cars together.
These couplers are to scale so they will not couple with existing
larger N scale couplers.

Trucks
Micro-Trains offers a variety of truck styles in a variety of
packages. Many of our trucks can be purchased with an assortment of coupler extensions or without a coupler for body
mount conversions. You can also purchase our trucks in bulk
and some are available in brown. For a complete listing of
our truck packages please visit www.micro-trains.com.

Design Your Own
For years Micro-Trains has been producing custom runs for model railroad clubs,
individuals and businesses through our Special Run Program. So what is the Special Run Program?
Our Special Run Program allows you to produce freight cars in limited quantities
and decorated to your own unique specifications. Over the years we have produced short runs of cars to be used as fund-raisers, club membership specials,
employee incentives, branding pieces and historical reproductions – just to name
a few.
To receive more information
about our Special Run Program
