Mina, a young Kurdish woman, flees from Syria
after her neighbourhood is besieged by the militia
and her husband is seriously injured. Arriving in
Berlin she begins to build a new life, regularly
transferring money to her family back home for her
husband’s medical treatment. Things get out of
hand quickly, however, when Syrian security forces
trace her transactions an track her down. Soon
Mina is being blackmailed into spying on resistance
fighters in Berlin.

It’s the mid-1990s. Following a breakdown and a
stay in a psychiatric ward, Karl Schmidt moves into
assisted accommodation in Hamburg. Having kicked
his alcohol and drug habit, Karl meets old friends
from Berlin, who now work as rave music producers.
Instead of his prescribed holiday on the Lüneburg
Heath, Karl goes on the road with his friends, driving
their tour bus. Being in an environment full of drugs
and alcohol, however, starts to bring back Karl’s demons.

Ten-year-old Lea doesn’t want to go to summer camp
this year with her friends as she normally would.
She finds the other girls all strange, anyway. One
afternoon, Lea rambles through the village and
spies a gang of boys stealing an oil barrel. She
follows them and discovers that they’ve built a
tree house. No girls are allowed in the gang, but
Lea wants to join them badly. So the boys decide
to let her in for a dare.

The Austrian-Jewish writer Stefan Zweig was one
of the most-read German-language writers of his
time. In this fictionalised account of his life, Zweig
foreseeing the rise of the Third Reich and the decline
of Europe goes into exile in 1934, never to return.
Emotionally and financially depleted, Zweig moves
with his young second wife, Lotte, between the
United States, Argentina and Brazil, all the while
trying to make sense of the state of the world and
his own personal existence.

In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset
the balance of the planet, established by nearly
four billion years of evolution. The price to pay
is high, but it is too late to be a pessimist:
humanity has barely ten years to reverse the
trend and change its patterns of consumption.
Featuring aerial footage from fifty-four countries,
Home is a depiction of how earth’s problems
are interlinked.

A fictionalised account of true events,The Heineken
Kidnapping begins with Rem, who lives in
Amsterdam with his family. They’ve been facing
tough times ever since Rem’s father got fired
from his job at the multinational Heineken

the love of his life by her influential father. To
prove himself, Gerrit becomes an officer on

It is the year 1888. Vedder, a violinmaker, has
to move when his home, opposite the Central
Station in Amsterdam, must make way for the
planned Victoria Hotel. His cousin Anijs, a
pharmacist, has got into a fix after illegal medical
practices and is looking for a way out for his wife
and a colony of impoverished peat-cutters,
whom he promises a future in the US. Vedder
and Anijs must come with up a scheme from
which everyone will benefit.

Set in 1945, Winter in Wartime contemplates
the fog of war and the mysteries of adult life
through the eyes of 13-year-old Michiel. The son
of the town’s mayor, Michiel views his father’s
uneasy cooperation with the Nazi authorities
with disdain. When he is drawn into a plan by
the Resistance to help a downed British pilot
escape, Michiel thinks the adventure is a fantasy

On the Russian Front in the winter of 1943, a
series of bodies, hideously mutilated and carved
with bizarre messages, are discovered. Arturo,
a cynical police inspector now serving General
Franco, makes it his mission to track down the
killer. What Arturo uncovers is a cunning entity
seemingly intent on making known a diabolical
master plan, one that may lead to the top of the
chain of command, threatening the very direction
World War II.

War correspondent Witek is away most of the
time, and Anka must endure the horrors of
war from home. The testimonies Witek passes
on to the world feed Anka’s solitude and the
catastrophic visions that fill her uneasy mind.
And, as it transpires, the border between
reality and fantasy is extremely fragile. Based
on the autobiographical novel by Grażyna
Jagielska, 53 Wars is an evocative psychological
drama about experiencing war second-hand.

Job is a disenchanted 18-year-old from a
dysfunctional family. Rosa is an elderly woman
haunted quite literally by the recent death of
her beloved husband. When Job is kicked out
of his home after a violent argument with his
father, he takes refuge on Rose’s terrace.
When Rosa discovers Job sleeping there, the
lonely woman and the troubled boy reach out
to one another and a highly unusual relationship
begins to develop.

Bécassine was born on a little farm in Brittany,
on a day when woodcocks were flying over the
village. She grows up, her childhood innocence
intact, with dreams of going to Paris. Plans take
a different turn when she becomes nurse to
Loulotte, a baby adopted by the Marquise of
Grand-Air. Bécassine and Loulotte form a tight
bond, and happiness reigns in the manor.
But for how long?

Anna and Mathieu are Parisians whose daughter,
Sarah, suffers from a disease forcing her to live
in a hermetic chamber. One day, a mysterious fog
begins spreading through the streets, killing
everyone that gets caught in it. Anna and Mathieu
find shelter on the roof above the danger, but
Sarah is still in her chamber in the now fog-filled
flat. While the fog refuses to clear, the batteries
that power Sarah’s chamber are running out of life.

This lucid, political, Afro-feminist documentary
intertwines the personal narratives of a group
of French women of African descent, who
converse about what it means to be a woman
today and belong to the Afro community. By
sharing their experiences and aspirations for
the future, the women reveal the problematic
discrimination faced by black women in France
and Belgium while taking control again of their
own representation.

François Foucault is a distinguished professor
of literature at Lycée Henri IV, one of the most
prestigious high schools in France. His comfortable
bourgeois-intellectual life is upended when
he’s forced to accept a job at a public school
in an underprivileged area just outside Paris.
François is confronted by his own limits and
faces the upheaval of his values in this new
social reality, where the desire for knowledge
is not a priority for his students.

Lila and Mo meet at a bus stop. Lila has a
paralysing speech impediment. Mo is chatty and
exuberant, and illegally races cars for a living.
Lila, who is much younger than Mo, is preparing
for her exams. Opposites attract, and they fall
in love. But Mo carries a secret burden.

Based on true events, this is the story of
acclaimed French novelist Romain Gary’s
relationship with his overbearing single mother,
Nina. Hounding the boy at every turn, Nina
continually brags to everyone she meets that
her son will become a great writer, a war hero,
a French ambassador and a Knight of the Legion
of Honour. She thrusts her monumental aspirations
onto her young son, and the beleaguered boy is
determined to realise them for her.

In this contemporary take on a Shakespearean
stragedy, Mavela, a teenage girl with ties to
Brussels' Black Bronx gang, meets Marwan, a
member of a rival Moroccan gang. Keenly aware
of the consequences of getting involved with
someone from another gang, they at first resist
their attraction to one another, but they can
only resist for so long. Just when they've started
to imagine a different life for themselves, a terrifying
incident reminds Mavela where she belongs.

Suicidal, seventeen-year-old Vincent is obsessed
by the end of the world, and drives his family
crazy with his attempts to reduce their carbon
footprint. Vincent‘s giddy French aunt Nikki decides
to take him on a trip to France, convinced that
the boy‘s neuroses are related to his suffocating
mother. But on their road trip, Vincent proves to
be much more than Nikki can handle.
