E136 FLH - CITROEN 2CV 6 SPECIAL -1987- / SOLEX carburettor “ 26 35 CSIC “

Car bought in 2017 by JP Mace with 77Kmiles ; Now 81 K miles
One of the last 2CV with a 602ccengine ,fitted with a Solex carburator “ 26 35 CSIC “
Until now has started and run without any problem

Recent carburation problems :

Fri 13/05 : The car was running as normal ; suddenly the engine misfired :
“ Almost no power ! “The car managed to get back home at slow speed .
Sat 14/05 : I come to have a look ; The engine starts normally but does not rev higher than approx 1000 rpm ;
Apparently the secondary choke does nor work ; Main jet (7) blocked ?
Note : impossible to extract and blow the main jet which is at the bottom of the fuel bowl.
Following several attemps, the secondary choke suddenly works again as normal
… but there is no idling ; the engine stalls under approx 500 rpm.
I take the car to go to Oxted ( 10 miles ) ; after 3 miles the idling is back as normal
I nstall a fuel filter just before the carburetor
Monday 16/05 : Return to Reigate ; all OK but after 8 miles, no idling again !
I unscrew and screw again the idle mixture screw ;I take out the slow speed idle jet (9) to blow it ; No effect !
We go to the pub ( 3 miles ) ; on the way back the idling goes back to normal !
I think that there is dirt in the carb which needs to be dismantled to be professionally cleaned

Driver's side - the left side of the photo points to driving direction.

Curbside - the right side of the photo points to driving direction.

Top side - the upper side of the photo ponits to driving direction.

Lower side - the lower side of the photo points to driving direction.

Front side. The arrow marks the place of nozzle No. 6 (see photo further below). Those nozzle regulates the mixture
while the engine is in idle. So if your engine always stops running while the throttle is (nearly) closed, have a closer look
at this place of the carburetor. Maybe you have lost this nozzle.
Left down the accelerator pump can be seen. If the accelerator pedal is stepped, some gasoline is injected into the
carburetor. If the duck accepts acceleration badly, it can be because of this construction unit. Pushing the lever of this
pump indicates if the gasoline supply still works correctly. You can notice a resistance during manual operation and hear
also the injection of the gasoline.

Backside. Left down you can see a vacuum actuator. More about this device is written down below.

The nozzles. For cleaning you should never use needles or something like that, since the diameters will be expanded!
Use compressed air to eliminate contamination.

The nozzles in the inserted condition. The nozzle needle (5) whole turn in (NOT very tighten -the needle could be
deformed) and then unscrew 3 1/2 tournaments. It is for adjusting the CO-concentration (emission inspection). All other
nozzles are screwed in completely.

The floater. This is swivelling fastened to a brass axle (1), it can be disassembled with the help of a small nail. The
floater closes the valve (2) when the correct fuel level is reached and interrupts thereby the further fuel supply into the
Carburetor.

The distance from the center of the flotation chamber to the edge of the housing should amount to on both sides 19mm.

The carburetor is fastened on the manifold spider with four screw bolts. The two longer are bolted in front, those shorter
in the back. The screw bolts are of the quantity M8, to which nuts for wrench width 13 are normally used. At least at the
front fastening spots these nuts do not fit however. Here special M8 nuts with wrench width 12 are used! When
assembling do not forget the plastic spacer plate (picture center).
When fixing the bolts of the carburetor-spider on the engine block, it should lay flat on all four corners. Otherwise
remove the cylinder head covers and loosen the bolts of the cylinder heads! Now fix the spider with 19Nm and tighten
the cylinder heads with the correct torque again. In the first stage with 5 - 10Nm, in the second then finally with 20 23Nm. The order is up front, back up and then down. Finally the valve clearance has to be adjusted!

For control the carburetor has the Choke (1) and gas cable (2). The full acceleration position should be reached, when
the accelerotor pedal is kicked down completely and not before that! In this case tension lies on the axis of the
carburetor flap with completely kicked down pedal, whereby this will destroy the axis. The consequence is a clamping
carburetor flap.
Engine idle is adjusted with the help of the screw (3). This should be as low as possible, but not so low that the engine
runs noncircular or vibrates strongly.

The vacuum actuator at the installed carburetor: This device opens the choke slightly when the engine starts running
(cold starting process). So the air-fuel-mixture is adjustet to less fuel when the engine runs. Take a closer look at this
component, when your engine does not start propperly. Maybe it is loosened or came off completely. 4 screws fasten
the component. The central screw is for adjusting the vakuum actuator.

To adjust the vacuum actuator you have to pull the choke (=carburetor shut).

Now push the hook to the vacuum actuator. Now there should be a gap between 1.5 and 2.0 mm.

quelques problèmes qui peuvent vous arriver
---> Réglage difficile voir impossible du ralenti ou deuch qui ne tient pas le ralenti qui cale en freinant
ces différents problèmes peuvent etre dus à des mauvaises refabrication de joints de cuve qui laissent passer de
l'essence dans le circuit de ralenti

on voit ici clairement que le trou près du pointeau, la ou est fixé le flotteur (la patte en haut a droite), laisse passer
de l'essence dans le trou d'à coté ce qui a pour conséquence de noyer ou perturber le circuit de ralenti lors du
freinage de la 2cv (

.. Autre problème :
---> Moteur ne fonctionnant qu'avec le starter ou ne fonctionnant qu'en accélérant en continu
Une fois de plus Attention aux refabrications !!!, dans mon cas il s'agissait d'une vis de richesse neuve qui était mal
calibrée (ou usinée) et qui n'avait aucune influence sur le comportement de mon moteur (vérifier tout de même dans
le cas d'une vis de richesse d'origine que cette dernière n'est pas chibrée ou ecrasée en bout, du à serrage trop
important)

I forget exactly what the mechanism is called or how it works, but there is a link or spring
connection between the first and second throttle plates.

I have read reports of it having an issue and cause symptoms similar to those you describe.

So, is the second throttle closing properly, or does it just flap about?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's probably electrical (or, an electric fuel pump!) ....

The engine runs 100% fine... now.

By the way , i understand that the car has been filled with E10 fuel.
Coul this be the cause ?

I think its a return spring that breaks on the second throttle plate spindle. This causes the
second throttle to be a bit random in it's position.

21/24, ou 18/26 ou 21/26 sont les diamètres des buses appelées aussi venturi. Venues de fonderie, elles ne sont pas
démontables.
Rappel : réglage du flotteur 21/24 :18mm ; 18/26, 21mm

c'est un 26/35 monté en 18-26 (fonderie non modifiable + gicleurs correspondants) : monté aussi sur 2CV6, AM2a des
Acadiane, LN (602), ...
Sur les AM2 des Dyane 6, c'est aussi un 26/35 mais monté en 21-24.
Et sur les LNA (652) et Visa 652, c'est encore un 26/35 mais cette fois en 21-26.
26/35 sont les diamètres de papillon.
21/24, ou 18/26 ou 21/26 sont les diamètres des buses appelées aussi venturi.
Venues de fonderie, elles ne sont pas démontables. Sur certains carbu comme les Weber DCOE, on peut tout changer,
mais cela ne concerne pas les 2CV et dérivés.
