Optical parametric amplification (OPA) of lower frequency waves in a TWM process where photons h ¯ ωp of the wave of the highest frequency, the pump, are split into two photons of lower energy, the signal h ¯ ωs and the idler h ¯ ωi , such that the energy conservation, ωp = ωs + ωi , and the momentum conservation, kp = ks + ki , conditions are satisfied, has large practical importance for the generation of high-energy ultrashort pulses in attosecond systems [9], as well as in quantum optics experiments for entangled photonpair generation [10] and generation of squeezed vacuum states [11].
